Keeping your NOSE CLEAN on Fiverr

If you believe the hype and a lot of the YouTubers, the way to succeed on Fiverr is through back doors and sneaky stuff. I beg to differ. It's through the opposite of that!

When I see the tens of thousands of people subscribing to Facebook groups where they're all busily exchanging likes and favorites to try and bolster each others' gigs, even selling each other reviews, and placing fake orders on each others' pages, it just makes me sad. How many of them, do you think, are seeing any benefit from that sort of thing whatsoever? There are a zillion and one little backdoor sneaks and tricks people try, to succeed on Fiverr, and the best that can be expected from most of them is that they poison the souls of the people engaged in them, and put them in jeopardy of being nabbed and penalized, possibly ejected, by Fiverr.

What DOES Work

Fiverr is designed to reward merit, and that's where we need to put our focus. Here are some things that can help your cause on the platform, advance you through seller levels, and help push you onto the first page of search hits. Being consistent as we can be in the following areas is a big help:

Respond fast. I wrote about that recently. Responding quickly when something arrives in your inbox is a big deal on Fiverr. Keep a close eye on your Inbox. Occasionally if in doubt choose the filter that shows you all "unread messages." If your response rate slips too much, you could be demoted a level.

Just what does Fiverr say about it? Here it is, straight from the horse's mouth:

"How Does The Response Rate work? It tracks the percentage of first responses sent within 24 hours over the last 60 days. For example, if you received ten new requests in your Inbox in the last 60 days and replied to 9 of them within 24 hours of receiving each one, your response rate is 90%."

Deliver on time. Gracious...those dreaded "Oh dear, you're late" messages. Frankly, I had one of those myself last night. I'm just ADHD enough to occasionally forget to deliver on time (normally only an hour or two late, but still), and that hurts our stats, impacts our search results. As with our response ratings, late deliveries push us back. Keeping good numbers advances us.

Deliver great product. Not only is delivering great product and customer service the right thing to do, but it's also the smart thing to do, because the resultant high ratings help bolster your gig in Fiverr's eyes, and increase the odds of being nearer the top in search results

Avoid infractions. Now we're advancing into the "keeping your nose clean" area. Violating Fiverr's Terms of Service is a great way to plunge your gig into the depths of obscurity, and if repeated, straight into oblivion. There ways you can interact with your customers (before and after the sale), and there are ways you can't. Sharing contact information, or needling potential buyers with "joint venture requests" and the like, is a great way to shoot yourself in the foot and possibly, through the heart.

Set up to succeed. Rather than focusing on how to sneak around on Fiverr, game the system, and use fakery to try and boost your profile on the platform, what you really need to do is to understand how to set up your gig to be found, noticed, and patronized, in that order. From the wording of the gig, to the pricing, to the important gig image and demo, all the right elements need to be in place. Invest your energies in great gig setup and superior product and customer service, and the work will come your way.
